Before a new educator’s first shift: sight and record a valid working with children check (or WWVP registration in Tasmania), evidence of qualifications and first aid training (r 147), and add them to the staff record. Within the earlier of 14 days or starting work directly with children they must complete child protection training and foundation child safety training; staff working directly with children also need advanced child safety training within 3 months (sections 162A and 162B). In the first week they need the code of conduct, the policies, emergency procedures, supervision arrangements and children’s medical plans.
A staged induction checklist for educators, relief staff, volunteers and students, with the provision behind each step.
